yay! diesel volvo greasewagon sat for four months. wouldn't start despite all the goats i sacrificed. But my driveway is 100 yards downhill so yee oldeee bump start to the rescue!
we'll see if two hours of running has magical like fixed the starting problem tomorrow. gotta burn out all the used veggie and run her on diesel for a bit while I figure out what's causing the starting problem.
Anyone got a line on a service manual and/or the valve clearances for an '82 Volvo Diesel? I looked at Haynes and the other usual service manuals, but they don't cover the diesel variant of this early '80's beastie..... the factory binder set costs $4,000 (you have to buy the set for all the cars of that era or some such bullcrap) so any leads on this data are much appreciated.
aloha!

Wed, January 10, 2007 - 4:42 AMWhile I'm poking around, are you in the Alt. Fuel Vehicles and Bio D tribes? They stay pretty active and like to ponder the ineffible...and fix stuff, too. -

Re: bump bump bump start
Fri, January 12, 2007 - 4:26 PMi'd buy one if i find one that covers the DIESEL engine that Vovlo used (it was an '80's era VW engine that Volvo put into the car at the factory).

Re: bump bump bump start
Mon, February 5, 2007 - 2:34 PMI found super glue gell works great on gluing broken lenses ifyou have the pieces.
A good trick is to get transparent acrilic plastic at TAP that is the right color, take a piece of paper and make a pattern that will cover the broken lens area. Cut your plastic using your pattern, you can heat it in the oven for a few min at about 350 deg till it is like rubber, this will allow you to conform to curved surfaces. Press (use oven mitts) it against the old cracked remains of your existing lens. Hold for a min till it cools ( it cools fast) you can reheat it if you don't get it right. Use Marine Goop to seal your neww lens against your old one.

Thu, January 25, 2007 - 5:40 PMi used to drive a '79 volvo station wagon. there is a company in germany that holds spare parts. you might try and ask them:
www.w-und-g.de/willkommen.htm
i don't really know if they can help, but in germany they are well known for the best service regarding old volvos.

Re: bump bump bump start
Sun, January 28, 2007 - 4:15 PMand so far as I can tell in my further research this VW engine was not released on any of VW's other passenger cars. Nor in Audi's neither. so it's truly a red-headed step-kid of a Frankenstein creation. Even Frankenstein's monster wouldn't claim it as a brother. -
